Our well-appointed apartment in Blind Pass Condominiums on Sanibel Island is set in a tropical garden between the Gulf of Mexico and a famous nature preserve. Walk the wooden bridge over a bayou and you are on a lovely white sand beach. Bike through the nature preserve. Paddle a canoe and explore the waterways. And save time to laze beside the large heated swimming pool. When we can’t be in our favorite retreat we like to share it with others. Our condo is now wireless internet capable.  Also, an internet-connected computer is available in the club house.

Inside Apartment A205. Our condo is on the quiet second floor overlooking palm trees. It has two very large bedrooms and two baths. The master bedroom done in tropical shades of lime, periwinkle, lavender and pink, has a king-size bed and a flat wall-hung tv. The second bedroom at the other end of the unit, also in bright colors, has twin beds and a TV. The open living and dining area is large and airy with a comfy rattan recliner and good reading lamps. A sectional sofa, covered in splashy hibiscus-printed fabric, opens into a queen-size bed. The unit's three TVs receive a good selection of cable channels. In addition to air conditioning the bedrooms and living areas have ceiling fans. Meals may be at the round table on the screened porch overlooking an aerie of palm trees, or at the large glass dining table or at the counter with stools. The kitchen, open to the dining area, has every appliance and cooking utensil and a dishwasher and washer/dryer. A full Thanksgiving feast can be prepared—although it's difficult to resist dining out at the great variety of colorful and good island restaurants. 

Tour the grounds. The Blind Pass Condominiums are located at the quiet end of Sanibel. Seven buildings, most only two stories high, are placed with privacy on eight-acres beautifully landscaped with flowering shrubs and a variety of palm trees. The swimming pool—one of the largest on the island—is encircled with handsome white chaise lounges. Nearby is an outdoor grill area. There are two excellent tennis courts. Canoes and kayaks are available at no charge to use on the adjoining lagoon. The office and lounge has a computer and wi-fi connection which extends outdoors around the pool. On-site management insures the highest standard of management and immaculately maintained individual units.

A private path leads from the grounds to a picturesque wooden bridge over the lagoon and onto the beach. This area is a veritable bird sanctuary as the Island is home to 291 species of birds. Our Blind Pass beach lies alongside famous Bowman's Beach—rated at the top of the world's best beach lists—and especially known for great sea shelling. 

Island highlights. Situated in the Gulf of Mexico, Sanibel island is an ideal catching grounds for fantastic shells. More than 400 species of colorful shells including coquinas, scallops, whelks, sand dollars and deeper water mollusks wash in. Visitors leave with The Sanibel Stoop—developed during the compelling search for that perfect souvenir seashell.

Sanibel, in Lee County, is connected to Ft. Myers by the new 3-mile-long causeway running across the Intracoastal Waterway. The island is 12 miles long and 5 miles across. Its crescent shape forms Tarpon Bay to the north and the Gulf of Mexico to the south. There are 22 miles of cycling paths on Sanibel. More than 70 per cent of the island is permanently preserved. A small bridge across a narrow slice of water (also known as Blind Pass) links Sanibel to the island of Captiva.

Ding Darling National Refuge, consists of nearly 7,000-acres of open water ponds, mangrove forest, submerged seagrass beds, marshes and hardwood hammocks.
